RETAINING WALL FAILURE IN RICHMOND, TEXAS

Bryant was engaged to investigate the cause of the failures suffered by the 2,200 foot-long, two-tiered retaining wall system along Jones Creek following the flooding from Hurricane Harvey. To investigate these failures, Bryant:

  • evaluated the drainage capacity;
  • performed a slope stability analysis to evaluate the local and global stability;
  • developed a discharge hydrograph and used HEC-RAS to evaluate the how the velocity of water through Jones Creek fluctuated during the storm; and
  • evaluated the amount of scour caused by the storm.

Through its investigation, Bryant determined the nature, scope, and cause of the failures and provided recommendations to remediate the issues.
